Amanda Powers

FOUNDER & FARMER

"We grow mushrooms that people love."

For the past six years, Powers has achieved considerable success as a leader and entrepreneur in the world of professional soccer. She was just the second woman to be a president of a men’s professional soccer team in the United States. Under Powers’ leadership, she helped to launch exciting soccer brands like New Mexico United and FC Tulsa.

After three years of leading a team through the pandemic it was time to consider options outside of soccer which returned Powers to her sustainable enterprise roots.

In response to the ongoing threats of climate change and the need to localize sustainable agricultural efforts, Powers is applying her skills to grow and innovate New Mexico’s mushroom industry. Powers founded Enchanted Farms Mushrooms as a platform to work in partnership with the mushroom to support the health and well-being of the people and the planet.

Her approach to building grassroots brands has established her as an expert in weaving diverse communities together for a vision and purpose. Soccer was simply a platform to unite the community. Today, the purpose is the same but her medium is mycelium. Her partners are farmers, educators, artists, activists, healers, futurists, and entrepreneurs.

Over the course of her journey, Amanda has continued to seek meaning and purpose with her life’s work while also developing her unique health narrative. By bringing more mushrooms into her diet for nutrition and healthy energy, she has seen sustained weight loss, better sleep and moods, reduced aches and pains, and improved cholesterol and blood sugar levels. She truly believes all mushrooms are magic and will work to deliver high quality gourmet and functional mushrooms for better health and well-being.

Powers lives in Downtown Albuquerque with her husband, Malcolm June, who is a musician, and their 17-pound Black Cat named T.C. They’ve lived in Downtown ABQ off and on for the past decade but once owned a small property in the South Valley where they had pet goats named Lil' Black Phillip aka LBP and Dr. Reynaldo Cabeza. Powers was an NCAA All-American Swimmer and earned a B.S. in Sustainable International Business at Sonoma State University. She is passionate about health, new economic thinking, urban agriculture, building communities, and carrying out audacious ideas.

In Honor of the Hound of Love

Enchanted Farms Mushrooms is dedicated to Tinder, the Saint Bernard mutt and ultimate hound of love. Tinder was our son, a best friend, and a sweet, sweet boy. Tinder was a great teacher to his human parents and friends, ultimately making us all just a little bit better people. Tinder was the direct expression of loving kindness, a peacemaker, and held all sorts of emotional support for those around him. While Tinder’s physical soul is no longer on this plane, we at this farm hope to engender his spirit and qualities while working together and with the mushrooms.
